About Duplicate Document Checker
Duplicate Document Checker finds files that contain the same content, even when they have different names. Add a batch of PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets and text files, and it reads the text inside each one and compares every file with the others.
Each file is marked as an original, a duplicate or unique, with how similar it is to its closest match. You choose how similar two files must be to count as duplicates, from 50% to 100% (90% by default). Open any pair to review the matching passages side by side before you delete anything, then download the results as an HTML report, a CSV table or JSON.
Supported files include PDF, DOCX, DOC, RTF, TXT, Markdown, CSV, TSV, XLSX, XLS, ODS, HTML and JSON, up to 100 MB in total. Everything is compared in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
Does it compare file names?
No. Names are ignored. Two files with different names but the same text are reported as duplicates, and two files with the same name but different text are not.
Can it find near-duplicates?
Yes. Lower the similarity setting to catch files that were lightly edited, such as a document saved twice with a few words changed.
Does it compare images inside documents?
No. It compares the text. A scanned PDF that contains only images has no text to compare; run it through Extract Text from Image first.
